tiles is a film which documents every bathroom tile in a room and is edited together to the sound of the shower in a bathroom. as each tile appears on the screen to the sound of a different frequency of falling water. as the film continues, changes in the speed at which we see the tiles appear and hear the sounds occur.

the film was edited using max/msp to generate an element of randomness within the work.

the idea of the film is to question our experience of a daily event that we encounter without consideration. time spent in gazing on objects which we don't even notice. some of our most personal, profound ideas/thoughts happen within these spaces, and they become almost reflective. the banality, repetition and unimportance of these environments is what makes them intriguing.

by recreating them as a spectacle and relocating them in a new context it is hoped that we will begin to explore challenging perceptions of the everyday.
